Got this book for a dollar while I was on vacation. Bought it only for the cover. never would I’ve thought I would love it so much-ish … lol
Let’s talk about it!
by Amanda Hocking
“In a world of magical visions and pyrokinesis, Mara just wants to have a normal life. But is that possible?
Mara has become used to the extraordinary. Roaming from place to place with Gideon Davorin’s Traveling Carnival, she longs for an ordinary life where no one has the ability to levitate or predict the future.
She gets her chance when the struggling sideshow sets up camp in the small town of Caudry and she meets a gorgeous local guy named Gabe. But before long, Mara realizes there’s a dark presence lurking in the town that’s threatening the lives of her friends. She has seven days to take control of a power she didn’t know she had in order to save everyone she cares about—and change the future forever.”
Okay, I must admit this book got me hooked with the cover. I didn’t even read the back cover before I started it. and it wouldn’t have had matter anyways, because it says absolutely nothing about the book. Which is how I like my book descriptions, thank you very much.
The story follows a carnival show of “freaks” or should I say “Freeks” that arrives at a place that feels completely off. They start getting attacks by mysterious things and there super natural powers aren’t working properly.
I have to admit that I enjoyed the adventure part of the book and some of the characters, all though it felt like there was no character development, but OMG that freaking romance. I hate it when authors try to shove down my throat the stupid love story of people that just met and are together for like a couple of days and now they are madly in love. It’s annoying. And if you add that to cheese dialogue and porn-ish scenes of an easy girl, well you get what this book offers, a really, really, bad love story.
BUT!!!!!!! Apart from that, I really enjoy the book. The main plot was interesting and easy to read. It was really good because apart from that crappy romance I couldn’t put the book down.
The ending is a little bit stupid but overall the book is great.
I won’t tell you to read this book because it has way too many problems, but I also won’t tell you not to, because I actually enjoyed it.
