For the first time in my life I feel on the fence with a Rick Riordan book…

Magnus Chase and the gods of Asgard: The Hammer of Thor

               by Rick Riordan

book description:

“Thor’s hammer is missing again. The thunder god has a disturbing habit of misplacing his weapon–the mightiest force in the Nine Worlds. But this time the hammer isn’t just lost, it has fallen into enemy hands. If Magnus Chase and his friends can’t retrieve the hammer quickly, the mortal worlds will be defenseless against an onslaught of giants. Ragnarok will begin. The Nine Worlds will burn. Unfortunately, the only person who can broker a deal for the hammer’s return is the gods’ worst enemy, Loki–and the price he wants is very high.”

My Review:

I thought about writing this review for soooo long. I had no idea how to address it. And here is why. This book has the action pack that Rick always deliver and that’s mainly what I liked about this book. But the diversity that he tried to bring to this book felt a little bit force. Like for instance, there’s a moment in the book (spoiler alert) that Magnus says that he is atheist. While I read that I was like REALLY!!! that’s how you want to bring this subject. It just doesn’t make sense to me. Magnus has seen and experience way to much to know that in his world the gods exist (he is a freaking einherji living in Valhalla). If he added it for the whole of having-the-truth-right-in-your-face-but-not-been-able-to-see-it, then I get it (I think), but it still feels force. And that happens when Magnus is talking to Samirah al-Abbas about Alex’s sexuality and what she thinks of it since she is Muslim.

Anyways, the book is adventure pack and is really good writing like always. There are some other stuff that felt a little force, stuff that the book didn’t really need, but apart from all that is a good book. The book finishes with a really great-frustration-full cliffhanger (like always lol).

Rick Riordan is a great author but I did loved the first one wayyyy more than this one. And by the way Jack (Sumarbrander or The Sword of Summer) is my favorite character; I think he’s just funny and awesome and he is dating a lot in this book which is mega funny lol.

If you are new to Rick Riordan’s writing go check out Percy Jackson or The Kane Chronicles ( The Kane Chronicles is one of my favorite series from Rick. Actually I love almost everything he has written lol #lovePercyJackson ). They are way better than this one. (Not saying that this one is bad, I’m just saying that it feels a little force)

I don’t want to give more spoilers so go check it out if you want. lol
